“Nick Kyrgios is a part-time tennis player,” said former world no.1

Former world number one and US Open winner Andy Roddick called Nick Kyrgios a part-time tennis player during an episode of the new Netflix show Break Point. After his statement, a fan thought that Roddick’s move would have been a heavy criticism of the 27-year-old from Canberra.

The American, however, in a post published on twitter wanted to underline what he meant by that statement, clarifying that the appellation he had used to describe the Australian was the one he himself had once given himself.

He told: “He’s a part-time tennis player by his own admission. I agree with Mac on what I think of Nick’s game/talent. Two things may be true. I wish I had his talent and, like many, I don’t I can change the channel when it’s on.

I’d like to see it busy.”

Roddick does not compare himself to Kyrgios

Along these lines, another fan commented on Roddick’s post writing that the 42-year-old American had more qualities than Kyrgios, but Roddick flatly denied it
Roddick explaied: “Definitely not.

I had a lot of weaknesses to cover and I was a pretty stoned player. Like the greats, Nicks’ racket acts as a simple extension of his hand.” Speaking of former world number ones, John McEnroe also praised the Australian who won the doubles in Melbourne last season with Kokkinakis: “The most talented player I’ve seen in the last ten years.” Nick Kyrgios, at the 2023 Australian Open, will make his debut in the first round against Roman Safiullin.

In a potential third round he could face Holger Rune, while in the round of 16 Andrej Rublev. Nick Kyrgios, during his career so far, has always been much talked about by public opinion and fans both for his boundless talent, which has always made those who attended his match rub their eyes, but also for its behavior inside and outside the circuit.

The Australian tennis player, precisely because of this character of him, has always had both many admirers but equally detractors who don’t particularly like his rebellious spirit.
