Silvio Grappasonni at 360°. The “captain” of Sky Sport Golf, a channel which from today, at position 206 of the satellite pay TV boquet, will broadcast the main golf events of the season, including the 2023 Ryder Cup, has exclusively revealed to OA Sport his opinion on various subjects.
From the Ryder Cup itself, to the journey of Francesco Molinari and Guido Migliozzi, also passing through a technical and psychological analysis of what high-level players need to excel on the green. Here is the interview with Silvio Grappasonni.
Silvio Grappasonni, statements
“No, you are not daring too much to think so, on the contrary. The hope would be to have just as many like this, but many have not yet realized what an event, in terms of scope and importance, we are going to host in Rome at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club.
The Ryder Cup will be historic and with an incredible sounding board : there will be a lot of work to do, but it will be nice and stimulating to work on it at all levels”. “To be part of Team Europe at Ryder, we will see Francesco Molinari more involved in the DP World Tour circuit, therefore playing more in Europe, also to try to convince his captain to include him in the squad.
At the moment there are some positive signs for all of this: if he manages to play at 70-80% he is likely to be selected. The rest will come from experience and versatility in doubles. In addition to this, Guido Migliozzi should not be forgotten either who, by winning the French Open, made himself noticed: it would be wonderful to have two Italians in the team “.
“The competition is scary. You play on the details and to say it are the statistics. It is very important to play the decisive shots well. You need coolness and a psychological component: talent, paradoxically, is no longer enough.
It is an element that becomes less important, because many now have it. You have to know how to choose: from the coach to the right moments, everything has to fall into place, otherwise it becomes difficult both to excel and to settle at high levels”.
“The Ryder Cup will embrace everything, both from an urban and technical point of view. Surely the viability of that area will benefit from it. From a “field” perspective, however, I hope that the event can increase enthusiasts and practitioners, particularly in that age group aimed at the Under 21s. I hope that golf enters the homes of Italians and becomes a sport also known by the youngest ”.
