Former Chelsea and Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata’s wife is in intensive care in a Spanish hospital after giving birth to their fourth child.

Stunning Italian Alice Campello is receiving specialist care at the University Hospital of Navarra in Madrid after suffering “complications”. Morata had a troubled spell at Stamford Bridge after moving to Chelsea from Real Madrid in 2017 for £60 million.

He revealed the health drama as he announced the birth of the couple’s fourth child, and first daughter, Bella on social media. The Atletico Madrid star also posted adorable photos of his new child sleeping in pink and white pyjamas.

“Bella was born on the 9th and she is wonderful. Mom unfortunately after the childbirth that went very well, she had some complications that made us very scared,” the Atletico Madrid star said.

“Alice is strong and recovering little by little. Right now he is in the ICU of the University of Navarra Clinic cared for by the best doctors and is slowly recovering very well… she is very strong.

“We don’t want to stop thanking all the doctors for having been at every moment caring, understanding and very professional, each and every one of them. We have no words to thank you for what you have done and we feel huge admiration for you.

“Thank you all for the thousands of messages we’ve received, we send you a very big hug and we’ll keep telling you.”

The footballer declined to give any more details on his social media of what the “complications” had been. An identical message was also posted on model-turned-businesswoman Alice’s Instagram.

The couple already have twins, four-year-old Alessandro and Leandro, and a younger boy called Edoardo who is two. Venice-born Alice, 27, moved to Madrid in the summer of 2016 ahead of Morata’s transfer to Chelsea.

The footballer proposed to his wife after being called on stage during a magic show. He went down on bended knee as magician Antonio Diaz turned Alice away from Morata and pretended he was going to perform a trick on her.

Onlookers at the packed Rialto theatre in Madrid applauded the touching moment before recording it on their mobile phones. Last July Alice revealed her fourth pregnancy was not going that smoothly saying: “The little girl is giving me a hard time of things. I hope she’ll be good when she’s born.”

Morata currently turns out for Atletico Madrid, scoring six goals and notching two assists in 23 appearances in all competitions. He had been tipped to leave the Wanda Metropolitano in last summer’s transfer window.

But he instead stayed in the Spanish capital, before enjoying a successful World Cup despite Spain crashing out in the last 16. Atletico are next due to be in action on Sunday when they travel to Almeria, but it is unknown if Morata will travel as his wife recovers in hospital.
