Beginners Golf Classic thrills Abeokuta captain — — –

Captain, Abeokuta Golf Club, Bashorun Ladi Adegbite, has commended organisers of the first Beginners Tournament hosted by the club over the weekend, saying, “it was a welcome development.”

Adegbite, in his address, during the closing ceremony of the one-day event, affirmed that he was happy people were beginning to respond to the call of ‘thinking outside’ the box to improve the game of golf.

He congratulated the founder, Mubasiru Sanusi, “for the audacity to conceive, develop and execute this nouveau concept of golfing competition for Abeokuta,” adding, “may this not be the last one.”

The captain relished the positivity of his quest for people to be innovative.
“This out of the box idea has produced results; it has met the criteria of golf as a sport, providing an ideal level playing field for beginner golfers to compete.”

In his response, Sanusi, said “the aim and objectives of Beginners Golf Classic is to celebrate new golfers at end of year,” adding: “They have competed and boosted their interest in the game; it is an avenue to enjoy golf tips that will improve their game.”

Mubasiru believes that with more sponsorship from individuals and corporate organisations, there would be great improvement in the competition.

The competition had many winners among the numerous participants, including S. Lasisi, whose 69 nett won the Men’s category, while V. Oriyomi with 68 nett won the Ladies event.

The Nearest to the pin men’s title went to B Onaji; while Oriyomi, again, won the longest drive, ladies.

A. Ajayi won the longest drive, men, just as O. Mendes took the Best Front Nine prize, with J. Oyebanjo taking the Best Back Nine crown, while the Friend of RockMade title went to A. Olopade 74 nett. He beat B. Bakre on count back, just as Sponsors title was won by U. Bakare (77nett), with the professional crown going to N. Sofela, 70 gross.

In is closing remarks, Mubasiru commended the participants for making the event a success.
