Australia co-captain Sam Stosur expects Nick Kyrgios to thrive during the inaugural United Cup. Between 29 December – 08 January, the inaugural United Cup will be taking place in Australia. Stosur, who will co-captain the Australian team with Lleyton Hewitt, will also be a playing member of the team that includes Kyrgios, Alex de Minaur, Jason Kubler, John Peers, Ajla Tomljanovic, Maddison Inglis and Zoe Hives.

Kyrgios has said multiple times that he absolutely loves team environments and Stosur believes the 2022 Wimbledon finalist will do well at the United Cup. “It’s no secret that he [Kyrgios] loves the team environment, playing in a group and in a team, and it does seem to bring out some of his best tennis.

I’m sure the United Cup is going to be no different to what we’ve seen him do in those sorts of situations before. He loves playing at home, and it will be at Ken Rosewall Arena and hopefully have great crowds and excitement.

It’s going to be good fun,” Stosur told the ATP Tour website.

Kyrgios set to represent Australia

Australian Davis Cup team captain Hewitt invited Kyrgios for the Davis Cup Finals knockout stage in Malaga, but the 27-year-old declined the invitation.

After skipping the Davis Cup Finals and then competing at the last week’s Diriyah Tennis Cup, Kyrgios was asked why he skipped the Davis Cup and then went to Saudi Arabia. “Maybe if Australia embraced me a little bit more, I would play for it and bring home the trophy.

At this point of my career, I’ll always do what’s best for me. I can travel around the world playing exhibitions around this time of year for six figures. I feel I put myself in that position, so it’s an easy one for me,” Kyrgios said.

Kyrgios didn’t represent Australia at the Davis Cup Finals but he will be leading his nation at the inaugural United Cup.
