Ashley Harkleroad turned pro in June 2000. Her best year was 2003 when in the Charleston tournament she defeated three top twenty players, Elena Bovina, Meghann Shaughnessy and Daniela Hantuchova, before being eliminated in the semifinals by Justine Henin, reached the highest ranking position, number 39, and she played in a doubles final, at the Japan Open.
The following year she reached her first final and only final, in the Auckland tournament, which she then lost, against Eléni Daniilídou. Following two pregnancies (2009 and 2011), her activity almost completely stopped, except for a brief parenthesis in 2010.
In 2022 she began her career as a por*ographic actress. On May 25, 2008, after being eliminated at the Roland Garros by Serena Williams, she posed for a photo shoot for Playboy, which was later published in the August issue.
Harkleroad said she was particularly pleased to be the first tennis player to have done so.

About the Playboy shots, she said a couple of year ago: “I’ve never been known to be the strongest on the court. However I had the opportunity to be on a cover of Playboy magazine thanks to tennis. The Playboy cover it highlights my tennis career and shows my free spirit.
There are some things I would have done differently on the Tour. I would have lived more in the moment instead of constantly thinking about the future. I would have explored new places instead of always following the same routine.
I am very grateful to tennis for everything it has given me. After all, it has opened many doors in my life.” She was married from December 2004 to October 2006 to tennis player Alex Bogomolov. After the divorce she married another tennis player, Chuck Adams, for some time also her coach, with whom she had two children, a son, Charlie, and a daughter, Loretta.
