The Nigeria Scrabble Federation (The Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF) has said that the ongoing Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State, has so far recorded the highest number of states and athletes since the sport was introduced to the Festival.)

Nigeria Scrabble Federation President, Toke Aka, who expressed happiness over the interest shown by more Nigerians in the sport, said Team Nigeria’s successes at international championships has attracted more people to it in their different regions.
He, however, declared that NSF would not relent in giving more players from every region of the country opportunity to hone their skills in scrabble by organising competitions in the domestic scene.

Also speaking on the massive registration of players at the Sports Festival, NSF Vice President, Bright Idahosa, said with the high influx of players at the Festival, scrabble would soon become one of the top sports in Nigeria.

“27 states and 264 players registered for scrabble in the ongoing Sports Festival in Asaba when compared to the last edition in Edo State where only 23 states registered.
“This has shown that there is much improvement when it comes to awareness of the game.

“At this point, eight states have won gold medals so far, showing that the game is highly competitive and there are no push overs.

“Every state that registered for the scrabble event came with enough talent to contest in various categories of the sport. Players discovered at various grassroot tournaments are also slugging it out at the big stage in the Festival.

“The standard of scrabble is no doubt improving in the country and I believe by the next Sports Festival, all the 36 states of Nigeria will have a scrabble team.

“This means that we will continue to produce more talents that will still maintain the country’s enviable ranking at the global stage,” he said.
