Defending champion Collin Morikawa announced on Monday evening that he will not travel to Dubai to try to become the first double winner of the DP World Tour final. The first American to win the final of the European Tour on the Earth Coure of the Jumeirah Golf Estate in 2021 and at the same time to finish at the top of the general classification of the season, Collin Morikawa announced on twitter that he had “commitments future personnel” and that he could not line up at the start.

Last week his fiancée Katherine Zhu posted a photo of her at her bachelorette party, sure the wedding ceremony is coming up very soon which would explain why the 25-year-old has other priorities just hours away from the big deadline.

Collin Morikawa, schedule

Less to his advantage than in the previous two seasons which saw his explosion at the highest level on the international scene with two major titles Morikawa was only 35th in the DP World Tour Ranking and could not have competed for the number spot.

1 from the general. In 2022 the winner of The Open 2021 played eight times on the DP World Tour. Besides these two fifth places at the Masters and the US Open, he did not particularly shine. The other big absentee is his compatriot Will Zalatoris.

Second in the PGA Championship and the US Open, the 2021 rookie of the year is still recovering from a back injury that has kept him off the fairways since the end of August. Leader of the general Rory McIlroy returns to competition 3 weeks after his success, synonymous with a return to first place in the world, won in South Carolina.

Rory McIlroy, who won the FedEx Cup for the third time in his career in August at East Lake, will try to put his name on the DP World Tour general classification list for the fourth time in his career (2012, 2014, 2015).

If he succeeds he will go down in history by becoming the 2nd player to finish No. 1 on the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour in the same year. Only Swede Henrik Stenson achieved this feat in 2013. In the footsteps of Lorenzo-Vera and Victor Dubuisson
Its main competitors in Dubai are Ryan Fox, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood and Viktor Hovland.

4 French will try to stand out Victor Perez, Antoine Rozner, Matthieu Pavon and Romain Langasque. The best French performances in this final were achieved by Victor Dubuisson (2nd in 2014) and Mike Lorenzo-Vera (3rd in 2019).
