Why was Aaron Rodgers mad, yelling at Packers HC Matt LaFluer late vs. Cowboys? ‘Every single play call, probably’

Aaron Rodgers and Matt LaFleur have not always gotten along on the sidelines. And there was yet another tense moment between Packers QB and coach against the Cowboys on Sunday.

Following a fourth-quarter three-and-out, after which the Packers called a timeout on third down to adjust the play-call, Rodgers was seen coming over to the sideline clearly upset after their attempt on third down felt apart.

The Packers received possession of the ball with 1:38 left in the game and had a chance to take a late lead in a 28-28 game.

Green Bay called a pair of runs by Aaron Jones that picked up nine yards and brought up a third-and-1 at the Green Bay 42. The Packers ran the clock down to 30 seconds left, draining plenty of the clock off before calling a timeout ahead of the play. When the offense came back out, Rodgers was flushed out of the pocket and had to throw the ball away, bringing up a punt from the team’s 42.

The Cowboys wound the clock out to send the game to overtime on the ensuing possession and started with the ball in overtime. Dallas drove down to the Green Bay 35, and opted to go for a fourth-down try, but came up empty. Green Bay wound up storming back to win the game, as Rodgers drove the Packers down the field to the Dallas 10, where Mason Crosby drilled a 28-yard game-winner.

So, what was Rodgers so upset about?

“Just every single play call, probably,” Rodgers said postgame.

“I feel like we were like 30 yards from the end of the game in regulation and also felt like it was two minutes so I was going to be calling those,” Rodgers continued. “I was in a pretty good rhythm, obviously didn’t have a ton of attempts tonight, but felt like I was in a pretty good rhythm. I felt like I threw the ball just about exactly where I wanted to tonight. And so I wanted a chance to win the game.”

Rodgers and LaFleur have certainly had their differences of opinion throughout their shared time together. Their most noteworthy disagreement came in the Packers-Bucs NFC Championship Game in which Green Bay kicked a field goal, leaving time for Tom Brady and company to mount a comeback and advance to the Super Bowl.

This season, Aaron Rodgers vocalized his frustrations with the team’s offense and wanted LaFleur to ‘simplify’ things.

Perhaps a win to move to 4-6 will help make up for whatever it was Rodgers was fired up about earlier in the game.
