Eugenie Bouchard admits she has her own superstition acts on the court but noted they are not as “weird” as Rafael Nadal’s. Nadal, a record 22-time Grand Slam champion, is well-known for his superstition acts and routines.
During matches, Nadal has a specific manner of placing his water battles and he constantly adjusts his t-shirt and shorts. Also, Nadal removes sweat from his face in a specific manner and adjusts his hair before and after every point.
When it comes to Bouchard, she has way simpler superstition acts – on match days, eats the same thing in the morning and warms up at the same time.
Bouchard: I have superstition acts, but they are not as weird as Nadal’s
“There are so many, like little weird quirks.
I mean you’ve seen Rafa mess with his water bottles on the court, I’m not that crazy. He definitely has his whole weird routine. For me, it’s like eating the same thing in the morning and warming up at the same time.
When I made it to the finals of Wimbledon, I listened to the same song right before walking onto the court and it got me far,” Bouchard said on the Golf, Mostly podcast, per Sportskeeda. Nadal’s routines take time and some feel Nadal is constantly violating the shot clock rule.
During this past US Open, Nadal addressed the matter as he slammed the claim that he was receiving a preferential treatment from umpires. “I went through a lot of warnings under my tennis career. Never for breaking a racket, never for doing a mess on court.
But, yes, for the time clock. I have a problem that I’m sweating a lot. The problem for players like me that are sweating that much is when you go to pick up the towel, you’re going to be in trouble with time. So I’m not going very often. I don’t think I have a different treatment from the umpires at all,” Nadal said.
