World No 13 Cameron Norrie has been announced as a participant in this year’s Mubadala World Tennis Championship edition. Norrie, 27, is set to debut at the popular exhibition that is taking place in Abu Dhabi ahead of every season.

Norrie, who made his first Grand Slam semifinal at this year’s, joins a player field that includes Carlos Alcaraz, Casper Ruud, Andrey Rublev and Frances Tiafoe.

Also on the women’s side, Emma Raducanu and Ons Jabeur were confirmed as participants. So far, the Abu Dhabi exhibition organizers have announced five participants for the men’s event – which means that one spot has been left to fill in.

Norrie on missing out on the ATP Finals

Novak Djokovic isn’t among the top-8 on the Race to Turin list but he will be competing at the ATP Finals after winning Wimbledon. Norrie, who wasn’t rewarded a single point for reaching the Wimbledon semifinal this year, described Djokovic’s qualification as “a bit strange.”

“Novak obviously qualified from Wimbledon so that seems a bit strange. I don’t know if that was the rule before or not, but it seems unfair, I guess for Nick Kyrgios as well. He lost in the final and he gets nothing.

I knew that I hadn’t had the points all along, but I was still in with a pretty decent chance I thought,” Norrie said. No player was rewarded a single ranking point from this year’s Wimbledon. However, Djokovic qualified for the ATP Finals because he won a Grand Slam this year.

“The removal of ranking points at this year’s Wimbledon was done on the basis of fairness to all players, and no further rule changes linked to the competition’s status were deemed necessary. As such, any player competing at Wimbledon or the other Grand Slams this year had the opportunity to qualify for Turin via the Grand Slam qualification rule,” an ATP spokesman said.
