Stan scored a notable victory in the second round, beating the top seed Daniil Medvedev 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 in two hours and 20 minutes.
The Swiss delivered his first top-10 victory since the end of 2020 and moved into the last eight for the first time since the start of 2021. Medvedev has won only one title this year, missing an opportunity to earn more points in the ATP Finals chase.
It was the fourth clash between Stan and Daniil and the second straight victory for the Swiss. Read more about the encounter: ATP Metz: Stan Wawrinka downs Daniil Medvedev.
