‘Roger Federer trained with restraint’, says former ace

The Laver Cup will mark Roger Federer’s farewell to tennis. Last week, the King announced to the world his decision to hang his racquet at the age of 41. A painful but inevitable choice, perhaps belated. The last two and a half years have been a real ordeal for the Swiss phenomenon, who had to deal with a serious right knee injury.

The three operations he underwent did not solve the problem and his physique paid the price after 24 years of career at the highest levels. Although the former world number 1 never gave up the desire to return to competition, he had to give up in the face of the evidence.

His attempt to defeat Father Tempo once again failed, despite his fans eagerly awaiting his return and perhaps a last ride in 2023. Interviewed by a Croatian newspaper, Ivan Ljubicic retraced his collaboration. with King Roger (started in 2016).

Ljubicic on King Roger

“I tried to help Roger Federer to win another Grand Slam title, and he won three, so I’m happy with that part of my coaching career. Too bad that due to health problems he has not been able to give his best in recent years.

He was also out of form in 2019 at Wimbledon when he missed two match points in the final against Novak. He trained with restraint, between 60 and 70% of his capacity. His body has come a long way and it’s understandable that he needs a rest.

There are no problems between us and there never will be. We were friends and we remain friends. And we will probably continue to collaborate on certain things. He will surely play other exhibition matches because he loves tennis so much that he cannot live without it” – Ivan Ljubicic said.

Italian pasta company Barilla took to its social media platforms to pay tribute to one of its global ambassadors, Roger Federer. Barilla brought together some of the Swiss maestro’s biggest fans to thank him for his extraordinary career.

“Grazie @rogerfederer for the great times. Prepare your racket and be part of the tribute. Drain your favorite pasta with it, and tag @Barilla to say thank you to Roger,” the video was captioned. In his retirement speech last week, Federer thanked the “loyal sponsors” who have been with him throughout his career.

“I would like to thank my loyal sponsors, who are really like partners to me, and the hard-working teams and tournaments of the ATP Tour, who have always welcomed us all with kindness and hospitality,” he said.
