Jamie Delgado says Nick Kyrgios didn’t let his people down since he did his absolute best and left it all out there before falling short to Karen Khachanov. After suffering a five-set defeat to Khachanov in the US Open quarterfinal, Kyrgios was extremely disappointed.
The Australian said he felt “like s—” and added he felt like he “let so many people down.” After beating first-seeded Daniil Medvedev in the round-of-16, Kyrgios was definitely the favorite to beat Khachanov and reach the US Open semifinal for the first time in his career.
But Khachanov came to play and upset Kyrgios 7-5 4-6 7-5 6-7 (3) 6-4. Delgado, who worked with Andy Murray and Denis Shapovalov, felt Kyrgios definitely didn’t let anyone down with his performances in New York. “I saw that and felt a bit sorry for him.
He will feel that way, but he has not let his team down,” Delgado told Tennis365. “All you want as a team member is for the player to prepare the best they can and go out there and leave it all out there. He obviously felt the pressure that he had to win.
I’m sure his family will want to see him out there competing and enjoying it. If you lose, you haven’t let anyone down”.
