Kyrgios pulls off “odd” illegality versus Medvedev, “stupidest point you’ll ever see”

While heading toward his victory against world number one Daniil Medvedev, Nick Kyrgios pulled off a rarely seen feat as he smashed a ball from Medvedev’s side of the court before it landed out.

The moment was described as strange on social media.

“Nick Kyrgios crossed the net and hit the ball before it bounced, therefore losing the point (we think),” US Open described the moment.

“Well, this was odd,” US Open captioned the video.

Social media creator Bastien Fachan labeled the shot as one of the worst decisions he has ever seen.

“Here it is – the single stupidest way to lose a tennis point you’ll likely ever see, courtesy of Nick Kyrgios,” said Fachan.

Even though he lost this controversial point, Kyrgios went on and won the match.

After all, the Aussie player had a lot of confidence ahead of the encounter. “If it’s Medvedev, there’s no shame in losing to a player like that, but I definitely feel like the way I’m playing, the game plan and the success I had against him obviously in Montreal, I definitely feel like I have a fighting chance,” Kyrgios said of facing Medvedev.

How Kyrgios beat Medvedev

Nick Kyrgios had to wait over seven years to make another Major quarter-final. Nick accomplished this at Wimbledon on his way to his first Major final, and he is on the same path at the US Open after a notable victory.

Kyrgios defeated Daniil Medvedev 7-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in two hours and 53 minutes to reach the quarterfinals and defeat the Russian for the fourth time in five meetings! As a result, Medvedev will lose the ATP title next Monday, most likely to Rafael Nadal, who is ahead of Carlos Alcaraz and Casper Ruud.

Both players had over 20 aces, with Nick having nine points more than the world number one. To control the pace in sets three and four, the Australian converted five of seven break chances and defended five of eight in his games.
