Man United vs. Arsenal live score, updates, highlights & lineups as Rashford restores lead for Ten Hag’s men

OLD TRAFFORD, MANCHESTER — Antony marked his Manchester United debut by opening the scoring against Arsenal before Bukayo Saka levelled with an hour played at Old Trafford.

Gabriel Martinelli thought he had given Arsenal the lead but his effort was ruled out for a foul on Christian Eriksen by Martin Odegaard after a lengthy VAR review and Antony, the £82.2million signing from Ajax, pounced against the run of play in the 35th minute.

Mikel Arteta’s side are looking to make it six wins out of six this season and go four points clear at the top of the Premier League table and they were rewarded for keeping there composure when the impressive Saka pounced after Raphael Varane thwarted Gabriel Jesus.

The Sporting News is following the Manchester United vs. Arsenal match live and providing live score updates and commentary.

Man United vs. Arsenal live updates, highlights from Premier League

70th minute: Ronaldo gets up to meet a right-wing corner but can’t direct it goalwards.

69th minute: Oh, that could have been game over. Ramsdale sells Zinchenko short with a pass after being pressed by Ronaldo (!!!). He’s out to save from Fernandes.

66th minuteGOOOAAALLLL!!!!! Rashford!!!!

United have done Arsenal on the break. It’s a good finish from Rashford but that outside of the foot pass from Fernandes… my absolute word!

65th minute: United are continuing to chase the ball around a lot. Fred is going to come on to help them to that end. Hang on…

60th minuteGOOOALLLL!!!! Saka!!!!!

It’s been coming. From Arsenal and probably from Saka. Odegaard threads a pass to Jesus, who attempts a sliding finish. Varane gets their first with a block challenge but the loose ball runs to Saka for a simple finish.

59th minute: Better from Malacia, who reads Saka’s pass for White and shrugs the Arsenal man out of the way to win a goal kick.

58th minute: Malacia has won plaudits for the start of his United career, but he’s having a rough old time against Saka. He pulls the Arsenal man down and Odegaard is over the freekick. Antony makes way for Ronaldo, meaning Rashford moves out to the wing. Nothing comes of the set piece.

55th minute: Now Saka pops up on the lift. He chips a cross that floats against the top of De Gea’s bar.

54th minute: Saka received treatment after that shot and there were penalty shouts from Arsenal. Malacia blundered into the Gunners favourite, but not in a way that impacted the shot.

52nd minute: Two huuuge chances for Arsenal in the space of a minute. First Jesus barges Martinez out of his way and cuts one back towards Odegaard. The Norway makes a complete hash of a side-footed attempt. The visitors keep the ball alive, Martinelli lofts it towards Saka, who controls brilliantly and spins away from Malacia, only to thump his eventual right-footed shot beyond the far post.

48th minute: Still Arsenal aren’t quite picking the right pass in the final third. Zinchenko release Martinelli and he picks out Jesus, 25 yards from goal. A mazy run ensues but United manage to clear the danager.

46th minute: Back underway and White is frustrated he doesn’t get a free-kick by the United corner flag. If that’s anything to go by, Arsenal are still seething with the officials and that needs to be better channelled.

Halftime: That was an intense, high-quality and absorbing first 45 minutes. Arsenal had the better of it and thought they had the lead — Odegaard is in discussions with the officials as the players leave the field — but United do have the lead through instant Old Trafford hero Antony. This feels like a big team talk for Mikel Arteta and, thanks to Amazon’s All or Nothing series, we all have a reasonable idea what it might entail. See you back here shortly.

45th minute+2: Steady on. Antony is understandably having a ball and tried to chip Ramsdale from 30 yards. It’s not a bad effort but the Arsenal keeper pouches it.

45th minute+1: Xhaka is carelessly dispossessed near halfway. Eriksen spies a through-ball but Lokonga reads it superbly. We’re into three minutes of stoppage time.

44th minute: Arsenal have just started rushing their final ball a bit and a United defence that was looking increasingly discomforted are now helping themselves to confidence-boosting clearances.

40th minute: Now then, what have Arsenal got. They were playing really well and that was a sucker punch. Jesus is driving at the United defence again, his battle with Martinez is fascinating.

35th minuteGOOOAALLLL!!!! Antony!!!!

Well, that’s against the run of play but very few people in here care. Roof off! United benefitted from a good advantage there when Gabriel clobbered into Fernandes. The ball ran to Rashford who coolly found Antony for a similarly composed finish.

32nd minute: Martinelli vs De Gea and the United keeper comes out on top again. That’s a really fine stop. Odegaard floated one up to the far post and De Gea had little time to react to the header, albeit one that was at a nice height.

30th minute: Another quality Arsenal move. Jesus, Odegaard and Zinchenko all involved before Martinelli forces De Gea to save with his feet. Corner, United half clear but the Gunners will get another go.

27th minute: An element of The Boy Who Cried Wolf there. Fernandes went down in a heap, he’ll do that. But replays show Lokonga ploughed studs into his calm. The Arsenal midfielder is a bit of a lucky boy.

24th minute: Saka having a whale of a time down the United left. He beats Malacia again. Martinez comes over to deal with the situation, down Saka goes… no penalty. To add insult to injury, Saliba is booked for abruptly stopping the United counter attack.

23rd minute: Eriksen launches one towards Rashford from way down town. Ramsdale is out to about 30 yards from his own goal to head clear.

22nd minute: Anthony edges in from the right and lines up a Hollywood effort from 25 yards. It goes way over.

19th minute: Saka, who was denied a glorious assist by that VAR call, has just scooted past Malacia like effortlessly. The England winger looks bang up for this. His endeavours brought a corner, which Jesus nodded over at the back post. That’ll do nothing for his headache.

17th minute: If you’re looking for a game within a game, have a look at who ends up being the most intense forward out of possession between Jesus and Antony. The latter has just harried back and given Granit Xhaka an arm in the back. The Arsenal midfielder seems like the sort to make a mental note.

14th minuteNO GOAL! Old Trafford erupts. And talking of eruptions, someone in the Arsenal end has wasted some perfectly good pyro.

12th minute: GOAL? Martinelli thinks he’s scored a brilliant opener for Arsenal from a sumptuous Saka pass. But referee Paul Tierney is going to the monitor to have a look at a possible foil by Odegaard on Eriksen. The replays suggest Untied have a case…

11th minute: Sancho cuts in off the left looking just like a man in goalscoring form. He tries to beat Ramsdale down to his right but the Arsenal goalkeeper is equal to it.

9th minute: Odegaard chips a clever Arsenal freekick down the Untied right and the ball ends up with Saliba in the box. The centre-back lofts a very presentable chance over. You can’t take your eyes off this!

8th minute: Close! Dalot’s searching cross finds Eriksen at the back post and he volleys just wide. You’d expect such a technically excellent player to hit the target there, in all honesty. A groggy Jesus is back with us.

6th minute: Plenty of involvement from Antony in this latest United attack. He tries to slot in Sancho and gets the ball back before Jesus comes back to snaffle possession. Ooof, that’s a nasty one. McTominay collided with Jesus trying to win the ball back and the Arsenal forward falls and cracks his head on the turf. There’s a break in play. He looked to be out cold for a moment there.

4th minute: Arsenal stay on the attack and Xhaka blasts a bouncing ball at McTominay.

3rd minute: Odegaard’s delivery from the freekick is easily cleared.

2nd minute: Spicy. Arsenal clear their lines after United get in down the left and Jesus chases what looks like a lost cause. He gets in ahead of Lisandro Martinez, who clumps him to the turf. Brazil vs. Argentina – a tale as old as time.

1st minute: We’re off. Antony is lining up in his customary position on the right of the United front three, with Fernandes pushing on to support Rashford at centre-forward.

5 mins from kickoff: The teams will be with us imminently and I have to say it’s very, very lively in that Arsenal away end. For much of the past decade, trips to face fellow ‘big six’ teams have been occasions to treat with trepidation, but Arteta’s side have got rid of that fear. Will that still be the case in a couple of hours?

20 mins from kickoff: Warmups are in full swing, with the travelling fans serenading the fit-again Odegaard. Antony was doing the lay-offs for United’s shooting drills, lightening the load on the coaches, and is now getting involved in himself. New kid sucking up to the teachers is it? Ghastly stuff!

35 mins from kickoff: A little bit more on that rank Arsenal record at Old Trafford, at a time when everyone who’s anyone has seemed to win here. Last season, the Gunners were progressing and building momentum nicely before a slump of three defeats in four Premier League games spanning late November and early December. One of those was a 3-2 reverse at United, where Ronaldo scored twice after Emile Smith Rowe put Arsenal ahead. However, that is United’s only win in the past eight Premier League meetings (D3 L4) because they’re apparently just as bad at Emirates Stadium.

55 mins from kickoff: This is how Arsenal line up. The big news for them is Ramsdale, Zinchenko and Odegaard are all fit to start.

1 hour from kickoff: The teams are in. Antony starts. Ronaldo remains on the bench, as does Casemiro.

1hr 20 mins from kickoff: There is speculation that Erik ten Hag will hand new recruit Antony a start as United look to build on the momentum of three consecutive wins and, arguably more significantly after their capitulation at Brentford, three clean sheets. As we’ve seen from previous false dawns, it doesn’t take much for belief and expectation to come coursing back through the United fanbase. Win this one and they’d be only two points behind City.

1hr 40 mins from kickoff: Arsenal are sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League and can go four points clear of Manchester City and Tottenham at the summit if they can make it six wins out of six. One sticking point is that their record at Old Trafford is absolutely howling. There was a win here in  November 2020 during the lockdown season and an FA Cup triumph during Louis van Gaal’s United tenure in 2015. But for the last time Arsenal won a Premier League game at Manchester United with a crowd you have to go back to September 2006, when Emmanuel Adebayor scored the winner past Tomasz Kuszczak.

2 hours from kickoff: Hello and welcome to the The Sporting News’ live coverage of a mouthwatering clash between Manchester United and Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Man United vs. Arsenal predicted lineups

United will make a late call on whether new signing Antony will play, while forward Anthony Martial will miss the clash due to injury.

The Red Devils signed Antony on a five-year contract for a initial fee of £82.1m (€95m/$94.6m) and the Brazil international, who played under Ten Hag at Ajax, took part in his first team training session on Friday.

Man United predicted lineup (4-2-3-1): De Gea (GK) — Dalot, Varane, Martinez, Malacia — McTominay, Eriksen — Sancho, Fernandes, Elanga— Rashford

Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale (thigh) and midfielder Martin Odegaard (foot) will be assessed ahead of Sunday’s game, while defender Oleksandr Zinchenko is unlikely to feature after missing training.

Manager Mikel Arteta has indicated that Thomas Partey is expected to be out for “weeks” and fellow midfielder Mohamed Elneny will be sidelined for “months” after both suffered thigh injuries.

Arsenal predicted lineup (4-2-3-1): Ramsdale (GK) — White, Saliba, Gabriel, Tierney — Xhaka, Lokonga — Saka, Smith Rowe, Martinelli — Jesus
