Adilson José da Silva (Santa Cruz do Sul, January 4, 1972) is a Brazilian professional golfer. The son of a carpenter and a cleaning lady, Adilson supplemented his income by working as a caddy at the Santa Cruz golf club.

At the age of 17, and with the consent of his family, he agreed to go to Zimbabwe, a country with a golfing tradition, at the invitation of Andrew Robert Edmondson, an English golfer and businessman in the tobacco industry established in the African country.

They met in 1991, in Santa Cruz do Sul, as Andrew constantly traveled to the city of Rio Grande do Sul. He stayed in Zimbabwe until 1994, when he moved to South Africa, where he trained and decided to live. In September 2011 he reached position 371 in the world rankings In 2013, Adilson reached the 215th place in the world ranking — the best ever achieved by a Brazilian golfer in the history of the sport.

In 2016, Adilson became number 354 in the world. Adilson has won more than 30 tournaments in the sport, and in 2012 he became the sixth Brazilian in history to reach the finals of a Grand Slam golf tournament. He participated in the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, and the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.[4] Adilson had the honor of making the opening stroke of the men’s golf competition at the Olympic Games in Rio; it was a historic moment, as it marked the return of the sport to the event after 112 years of absence – before, it was only present in Paris 1900 and Saint Louis 1904.
