On the verge of the US Open, Roger Federer, being in Switzerland, brought luck to his hometown’s best soccer club, FC Basel, in a all or nothing Europa Conference League match against Bulgarian team CSKA Sofia that took place on Thursday.

FC Basel entered the match after they were defeated 1-0 in Sofia, so they needed a 2-goal victory to qualify. The match ended 2-0 for Basel who scored late in the 84th minute. “Mission accomplished. Approved by Roger Federer.

What a team!” Basel tweeted after the qualification. Kasim Nuhu Adams, a FC Basel player, was amazed by Federer’s visit.
“I can’t believe it,” said Adams.

Roger Federer to make ATP return at Basel

The 20-time Major champion feels confident about his comeback, which should happen at his favorite Laver Cup in September.

“We knew the recovery would take a long time. I’m very active, going to the gym five or six times a week. I do not play a lot of tennis yet, a bit with the kids, although I could do more. My goal is to be ready for LC and Basel,” Roger Federer said.

The ATP 500 event in Basel will welcome the leading ATP players for the first time in three years in the last week of October. A prestigious indoor tournament did not occur in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, and the organizers are working hard to prepare everything for the new edition.

Carlos Alcaraz will compete in Basel for the first time in October. Carlos has already beaten Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, and he could get a chance to meet the third legend Roger Federer in Basel later this year. Roger is doing his best to recover from the third knee surgery and extend his career, feeling good about his progress and hoping to return to the court in a couple of months.

Federer is a three-time defending Basel champion, claiming his tenth crown in the hometown in 2019 and keeping the trophy for three years.
