Daria Kasatkina notched one final win at the Granby Open, this time over Daria Saville in the title-match round, on Saturday. Kasatkina needed an hour and 53 minutes to win 6-4, 6-4. Both players went toe-to-toe and Kasatkina had to dig quite deep to get the better of Saville, point after point, and game after game.
In the first set, Kasatkina was pegged back before a timely break in the 10th game allowed her to go up in the match. The second set followed on the lines of the first and in the 10th game, Kasatkina was unable to make good of the first four match points she had, before she secured the title on the fifth.

Six breaks of serve came on Saville’s serve to four on the champion’s. Kasatkina won 58% of her first-serve points to Saville’s 56% and 47% of her second-serve points to the latter’s 37%.
The titlist finished the match with 73 points, eight more than her rival’s 65. In the five matches she played this week, Kasatkina lost a set only once. In her second-round match against Greet Minnen, the tournament’s no.
1 seed came from a set down to move into the third round. The Granby Open title’s also the second event Daria Kasatkina’s won in 2022. Earlier, she won the title at the Silicon Valley Classic. This title in Canada’s the sixth of the 25-year-old’s career.
The world no. 9 will travel to Flushing Meadows to play the US Open and continue her momentum in New York. Meanwhile, this was the first time in a long time (nearly six years) that Daria Saville had reached a final of a WTA tournament.
However, following this result, the Australian’s head-to-head’s continued to remain in Kasatkina’s favour with her now winning all three matches they’ve played against each other. Photo Credit: WTA Twitter
