Petra Kvitova has caught up in this second part of the season. Her last presence in a final act in a tournament was in March 2021, in the Doha Open, where she lost to Gabrine Muguruza. Her latest triumph, on the other hand, was missing from 2020, again in the same tournament, with the victory against Aryna Sabalenka.
After a difficult start to the season, Kvitova’s come back came on her favorite surface, the grass-court. The former world number two, in fact, won the Eastbourne tournament against Jelena Ostapenko in two sets, taking the 29th title of her career.
The excellent season on grass was followed by another final, the fortieth of her career, this time at the 1000 level: in Cincinnati, however, there was a defeat against Carolina Garcia. The good news, however, is not limited to the tennis court: the Czech made a beautiful announcement on social media.

The former world number two has announced that she will marry her new boyfriend and current coach, Jiri Vanek: the Czech is also a former coach of Karolina Pliskova. “We want to share some fantastic news with you guys.
I said yes in my special place,” the bride-to-be wrote on social media. The special place could not, of course, be Wimbledon. At the England Club the Czech has won two Grand Slam titles, the only two of her career: her first in 2011, when she won against the Russian Maria Sharapova; the second dates back to 2014, when she won a net success against the Canadian Eugene Bouchard, with only three games allowed in the whole final.
It is the second engagement for the Czech tennis player, after Radek Meild’s proposal: this, however, was canceled before it materialized. Petra 32 year-old, will arrive at the US Open in great psycho-physical form: will the Czech tennis player be the real outsiders on the Flushing Meadows hard-courts?
