Nick Kyrgios slams hecklers who called Daniil Medvedev ‘loser’ following their match

Nick Kyrgios was “disgusted” after seeing Daniil Medvedev receive the “loser” chants in Montreal following their match. After a first round bye, top-seeded Medvedev clashed Kyrgios in the Montreal Masters second round.

Medvedev made a good start to the match but Kyrgios recovered to win 6-7 (2) 6-4 6-2. Over the weekend, a video surfaced a group of hecklers calling Medvedev a “loser” as he was making his way out of the tennis complex in Montreal.

Kyrgios wasn’t impressed as he underlined that Medvedev is someone who deserves nothing but respect. “Disgusting behaviour (sad face emoji). This is the best we have in the sport, fans need to show some respect,” Kyrgios wrote on Twitter.

Kyrgios on beating Medvedev

Earlier this year, Medvedev defeated Kyrgios for his first win over the Australian.

Last week in Montreal, Kyrgios got his revenge and now leads the head-to-head versus Medvedev 3-1. “This is the fourth meeting we’ve had and I’ve had some success against him in the past,” Kyrgios said after the win.

“But he’s beaten me before [as well]. I feel like we know each other’s games well. I’m not the type of player that goes into this match looking at rankings or anything like that, it’s just who I’m playing and what kind of ball they’re giving me.”

After losing a very tight first set, Kyrgios impressively bounced back and won in three sets. Kyrgios was often going to the net and after the match admitted it was a big part of his game plan. “Today I had a very clean objective of how I was going to play, a lot of serve-and-volley, a lot of aggressive play from the back,” said Kyrgios.

“I executed better than he did, that’s all it comes down to. He won the first set and I feel like I had opportunities there as well, so hopefully I can just keep this rolling”.
