Update on Paul Pogba’s latest injury concern

Paul Pogba has opted against getting surgery on a knee injury and will be sidelined for just five weeks with the ailment.

It was feared that the French midfielder would miss the 2022 FIFA World Cup in December after tearing his meniscus during a training session at the end of the July.

This long-term lay-off would’ve been due to an expected need for surgery, however La Gazzetta dello Sport have learned that the player and Juventus’ and France’s medical staff have opted against such a procedure following a consultation with a specialist in Lyon.

As such, the midfielder will miss just five weeks of action and likely be back in time for Juventus’ trip to Fiorentina at the start of September.

Hopes are high for Pogba at Juve following his return to the club this summer, with Max Allegri, speaking after the game vs. C.D. Guadalajara in Las Vegas, stating that he can become the ‘icon’ of the new side:

“It was a good test. At times, we played with good rhythm, the team worked hard in Turin these days and you could see that.

“Pogba played well, there were a few elements he needs to work on but he will be an icon of this team.”
