World No. 5 Ons Jabeur reveals she has heard only positive things about the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic and that’s one of the reasons why she has decided to kick off her summer on hard courts in San Jose. Jabeur, 27, is set to make her debut on the hard courts of San Jose.
Jabeur, the third-seeded player in the San Jose main draw, had a first round bye at the tournament. Jabeur plays Madison Keys in the last-16. “I couldn’t go last year. The schedule was pretty tight,” Jabeur said of coming to San Jose, per The San Francisco Chronicle.
“But everybody was talking about this tournament so I had to come and check it out myself”.
Jabeur reflects on her Wimbledon run
After winning Berlin, Jabeur won six more matches at Wimbledon to improve to 11-0 during the grass season.
Jabeur actually made a good start to her first Grand Slam final but Elena Rybakina stormed back to win 3-6 6-2 6-2. “I talked a lot with my team because I like to learn a lot,” she said Monday. “My team was pretty honest with me and they told me it took a long time to read my percentages.
But everybody was supportive. I didn’t want to get too much celebration, but to be honest, I felt like I had a good time but they were pretty happy with what I did, so after I went back to practice, it was pretty motivating”.
Jabeur decided for a slightly different approach in her first post-Wimbledon tournament as she is alone in San Jose. “I’m alone here. I just want to experience how to deal with myself,” Jabeur said. “I’m going to take it one match at a time and see what’s going to happen”. It remains to be seen if Jabeur can clinch her third title this week in San Jose.
