World No. 10 Emma Raducanu reveals she sometimes struggles to “switch off and turn off” during matches and admits that overthinking can be a problem. “Yeah, I mean, I would say that my mind is really active, sometimes I struggle switch off and turn off.
Even if you are on the court, sometimes it’s not always the best thing if you think you have like so many options that you could do and then you’re choosing between the options, obviously that takes time. It is a strength of mine but sometimes it can turn into a nuisance,” Raducanu said during a conversation with Rennae Stubbs ahead of the US Open, per Sportskeeda.
Raducanu set to return to action in Washington
Raducanu was hoping to have a big grass season but unfortunately that didn’t happen. In her first grass tournament of the year, Raducanu sustained a side injury and was forced to retire her Nottingham opener.
After sustaining an injury in Nottingham, Raducanu pulled out of Wimbledon but was able to compete at Wimbledon. At Wimbledon, Raducanu made her Centre Court debut as she ousted Alison van Uytvanck in the first round. After a promising start to her Wimbledon campaign, Raducanu suffered a straight-set loss to Caroline Garcia in the second round.
Raducanu hasn’t played a match in a month as she has been preparing for the North American hard court swing. Raducanu is coming off a very strong training block and she is set to kick off her summer on hard courts next week in Washington.
Raducanu, 19, has no previous appearance in Washington so she will be making her Citi Open debut this year. In the Washington first round, Raducanu drew Marie Bouzkova. Raducanu and Bouzkova will be meeting for the first time when they meet in the Washington first round. It remains to be seen how far can Raducanu go in her Washington debut.
