Casper Ruud reveals he is not really a type of player who treats himself with a few drinks after winning a title as he plans to catch up to alchohol when he retires. On Sunday, Ruud produced a big comeback win to beat Matteo Berrettini in the Gstaad final 4-6 7-6 (4) 6-2.
Ruud, 23, won Gstaad a year ago and now he is a two-time champion at the Swiss clay event. “Well, there is not too much time to celebrate, but I always told myself that whenever some day my career is done, I can catch up with all the alcohol I’ve been missing, for 17-18 years, hopefully, if I have a long career so,” Ruud said.
Ruud: I do get a glass of wine occasionally
“Let’s see how that goes, but I don’t really drink too much alcohol even though I have a girlfriend who pushes me a little bit to enjoy some wine here and there. I am starting to get a little more taste of it, especially white wine is okay for now.
Red wine is too strong,” Ruud added. Meanwhile, Ruud has clinched his third title of the year and once again it’s a clay title. In February, Ruud lifted his first title of the year in Buenos Aires. Three months later, Ruud won his second title in 2022 after beating Joao Sousa in the Geneva final.
Now, Ruud has three titles in 2022 and once again he has won it all at a clay tournament. Last year, Ruud won three consecutive clay titles after Wimbledon – he won Bastad, Gstaad and Kitzbuhel. Ruud suffered a shock loss in his Bastad opener last week, but bounced back in Gstaad by successfuly defending his title. Ruud was scheduled to play at this week’s ATP event in Kitzbuhel but he decided to pull out of the tournament.
