Novak Djokovic was hailed as a hero in Belgrade after winning Wimbledon for the seventh time in his career. The Serbian champion was able to celebrate a success with a special flavor with his fans and, in his speech addressed to the cheering crowd, he tried to put into words all the emotions felt during the two weeks in London.

“We live for moments like this, these images will remain in my heart until the end of my life. They have improved my day and my year with this show of affection. I hope it is not the last time we meet here. I felt a bit lonely in Australia, but here in Serbia I feel the love and support of my people.

My favorite title is the next one I will win. As it is, I won’t be able to go to the US and Australia, but I hope to hear some positive news soon. I think things can change for the start of the Australian Open.” Djokovic talked about his future; a future that sees him far from the US Open but getting closer to returning to Australia.

Belgrade’s goal is to compete to the best of his potential in Grand Slam tournaments. Bogdan Obradovic, former coach of Serbia, revealed what Djokovic’s ambitions were when he took his first steps on a tennis court.

He explained: “I spoke with Djokovic when he was nine years old, the first time we met. However, when he turned thirteen, we started working together. We have been collaborating for 18 years, which is a very long period.”

Mouratoglou opens up on Djokovic

Returning to the Wimbledon final between Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios on his Youtube channel, Patrick Mouratoglou was very impressed by the Serbian’s adaptability and, above all, by his incredible resilience.

“It was two games in one. I’m sure experience played a big role, he never panicked. He started to fall behind in many matches and kept his cool. His refusal to lose is, if not the best in the world, one of the best with Rafael Nadal.

The ability to turn matches around, to find solutions. The stakes were too high to be so solid. His tactical knowledge was important in the final. He knew exactly what to do, and it took him a set to figure it out.” For Novak Djokovic, the pandemic has brought additional tensions.

As the Serbian legend stands firm in his decision to remain unvaccinated, many major tournaments have decided to bar him from participation.
