John Isner didn’t seem to be to impressed with Alexander Bublik’s comments following the Newport final as the American stated that a player “makes his own luck” on the court. In the Newport final, Isner’s fellow compatriot Maxime Cressy defeated Bublik 2-6 6-3 7-6 (3) to win his first ATP title.
Bublik appeared to be cruising toward a dominant victory over Bublik as was 6-2 3-0 up against the American. Then, Cressy produced a stunning comeback and won the match in three sets. After the match, Bublik made it clear he felt Cressy was extremely lucky.
“You had great luck. Put your whole prize money on red. You’re going to win big,” Bublik told Cressy during on-court trophy presentation. Cressy appeared to be a bit caught off guard as he responded: “I apologize for being lucky”.

En route to winning Newport, Cressy defeated three fellow Americans. In the semifinal, Cressy beat Isner 6-2 4-6 6-3.
Cressy, 25, made his ATP debut just last year. A year after making his ATP debut in Newport, Cressy returned to Newport and won there his first ATP title. “It’s an incredible feeling to win my first title, I never thought I would win it this way,” Cressy said.
“I played my first ATP tournament here, and it’s always an incredible atmosphere. There were a lot of ups and downs today but I’m very proud of myself for fighting through it”. Cressy has made a notable rise over the last 12 months and he is now enjoying a career-high ranking of No.
33 in the world. Cressy is establishing himself as one of the best American players and he is set to be seeded at the US Open.
