Indian footballing giants, East Bengal have reportedly requested potential investors, Emami Group to sign top foreign players in order to not only make up for the lack of availability of Indian players, as the club are currently lagging behind other Indian Super League (ISL) clubs in terms of recruitment.

The partnership agreement between Indian footballing giants, East Bengal and potential investor Emami Group continues to undergo further delays despite the club management reiterating that the process of setting up the joint venture is under way.

This the management believes is affecting their recruitment process and that they should sign quality foreigners as soon as possible due to the dearth of top Indian players currently present.

“We have told our investor that it should sign quality foreigners as early as possible. Anyway, all good Indian players already have contracts with other clubs. So the only way to put up a decent fight will be by getting good foreign players,” a club official reportedly said.

“ATK Mohun Bagan have a strong squad this season also. So we cannot afford to lag behind,” the official added.

East Bengal’s fellow rival ISL clubs have already strengthened their squads so far in the summer transfer window and it will be interesting to see whether they are able to make moves soon.
