The New York Red Bulls and Lucas Monzon have mutually agreed to terminate the player’s loan with the MLS side, forcing his return to Danubio FC after just 11 months.
“We want to thank Lucas for his time with the club,” Red Bulls sporting director Denis Hamlett said in a statement. “We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”
Monzon first arrived to the Red Bulls on loan in August 2021 as a U22 Initiative signing. He made two first-team appearances, one during a regular-season MLS match and another during the round of 32 game of the US Open Cup in May.
Head coach Gerhard Struber will depend on longtime NYRB defenders Aaron Long, Tom Edwards and Sean Nealis to get the job done as the New York side attempts to regain the lead in the Eastern Conference table.
The team is currently in third with 33 points and a record of 9W-6L-6D, and looking to come back after losing 1-0 to second place NYCFC. The Red Bulls return to action on Sunday when visiting Austin FC, a top contender in the West.
