Australian Davis Cup team captain Lleyton Hewitt has underlined that he would absolutely love to have Nick Kyrgios available for the Davis Cup FInals. Earlier this year, Kyrgios was invited to feature in the Australia and Hungary tie but he didn’t accept the invitation.

Even without Kyrgios, Australia was able to beat Hungary in Sydney and clinch a Davis Cup Finals place. Now, Hewitt is offering Kyrgios a spot in the Australian team for the Davis Cup Finals. “We’d absolutely love to have him playing for us,” Hewitt said, per Reuters.

“We’re a much stronger side if he’s available and can play for us, and he’s an option for singles and doubles matches, which is important in this format”.

Hewitt told Kyrgios he should be proud of his Wimbledon run

At this past Wimbledon, Kyrgios reached his maiden Grand Slam final.

There, Kyrgios delivered a strong battle but it was Novak Djokovic who the final in four sets. Even though Kyrgios didn’t win his first Grand Slam title, Hewitt told him he should be happy and proud of the run he put up at The Championships.

“Deep down, he’s still pretty disappointed to come so close but not win,” Hewitt added. “But as I told him, he should be extremely proud of the performances over the last two weeks and throughout the whole grass-court season.

Everyone knows the kind of firepower and game style that he has and what he’s capable of doing. He just has to go out there and keep believing in himself”. Kyrgios has been playing the tennis of his life this season so it shouldn’t be a surprise that Hewitt wants him in his team.

Kyrgios, who made his Davis Cup debut in 2013, hasn’t played in the competition since 2019. It remains to be seen if Kyrgios makes his Davis Cup return this year.
