John McEnroe explains why he badly wants to see fully committed Nick Kyrgios

American tennis legend John McEnroe says Nick Kyrgios is a stunning talent and he is certain that tennis would benefit from having the Australian fully committed to the game. Kyrgios, who was once tipped to win multiple Grand Slams and reach the top spot, made his maiden Grand Slam final at the age of 27 at Wimbledon.

Kyrgios was playing great tennis throughout the entire tournament and he was rewarded with his first Grand Slam final appearance. In the Wimbledon final, Kyrgios competed extremely well against Djokovic but now the 21-time Grand Slam champion was simply too strong for the Australian.

“We are all assessing the odds of whether he will commit to tennis now and while I have doubts that he will, I’d love to see him do it,” McEnroe told Tennis365.

McEnroe: Kyrgios could be great for the game

“Nick is probably the most talented player the game has seen in the last decade and I like him as a person.

I coached him at the Laver Cup four times. He’s a good kid, but he just has to commit to tennis,” McEnroe explained. “We want to see this guy on a tennis court and would rather not be guessing when he is going to shout at his box.

I am probably not one to talk about being angry on court because I had my own problems in that department, but I hope Nick sees what’s possible here. Nick moves the needle in tennis and he could be great for the game incredible.

You imagine seeing this guy doing what he’s doing on Centre Court at Wimbledon and you want to see more of it.” Kyrgios enjoyed a great grass season as he reached back-to-back semifinals in Stuttgart and Halle, before making the Wimbledon final.

Now, Kyrgios is taking some time to rest and it will be interesting to see how he does during the North American hard court swing.
