Nick Kyrgios’ lawyers have released a statement, claiming that the reports of the Australian being charged with assault are “completely inaccurate.” On Tuesday, Australian media reported that Kyrgios was charged for assaulting his ex-girlfriend Chiara Passari and that he is due to appear in Court next month.
Passari alleges that she was assaulted by Kyrgios during an incident from 2021 December. “Today’s media headline that Mr. Kyrgios has been ‘charged’ is completely inaccurate,” Johanessen Legal said in a statement.
“At the present time, the allegations are not considered as fact by the Court, and Mr. Kyrgios is not considered charged with an offence until the First Appearance. Until the court formally accepts the Prosecution will be proceeding with a charge, and that the charge before the Court is to be applied to the person summoned to appear, it may be misleading to the public to describe the Summons in any other manner than a formal direction to appear to face allegations, the precise nature of which is neither certain at this moment not confirmed by either the Prosecution or Mr.
Kyrgios. While Mr. Kyrgios is committed to addressing any and all allegations once clear, taking the matter seriously does not warrant any misleading of the process Mr. Kyrgios is required to follow.”

Kyrgios is at Wimbledon
Kyrgios is currently not in Australia as he is competing at Wimbledon. On Monday, Kyrgios defeated Brandon Nakashima to reach his second Wimbledon quarterfinal.
A day later, Kyrgios learned he was sued by his ex-girlfriend Passari. Kyrgios is having one of his best-ever runs and this could be a major distraction for him going forward. In the Wimbledon quarterfinal, Kyrgios faces Cristian Garin.
Grass is not Garin’s strongest surface and Kyrgios is considered as the big favorite to win that match. Kyrgios could potentially face Rafael Nadal in the Wimbledon semifinal. Kyrgios is having a strong at Wimbledon and he has made it clear he is aiming to win his maiden Grand Slam singles title this fortnight. It remains to be seen if Kyrgios will be distracted by the lawsuits filed by his ex-girlfriend.
