Jess Baker made her dream come true and she deserved to appear on a major. Baker, although only 19 years old, managed to beat Louise Rydqvist and thus win the 119th Women’s Amateur Championship at Hunstanton. After the victory, Baker was left speechless, which is no wonder, considering that this is all she dreamed about.
A lot of effort has been put into this and it will be interesting to see how Baker performs on the majors.
“It’s an amazing feeling, just incredible. I can’t believe it,” Baker said for skysports. “I’m absolutely stunned but I’m just so happy.
I worked really, really hard to get here and it’s just such a satisfying feeling.
Jess Baker: I don’t have to pre-qualify
Baker gave her maximum, she had a lot of great moves. Jess was focused throughout the entire tournament, and in the end, it all paid off.
The AIG Women’s Open will be her next challenge, and an even bigger advantage is that she won’t have to play in the qualifiers. Baker will have more and more difficult challenges in the coming period, but considering that she is only at the beginning of her career, she has a great career ahead of her.
“Yesterday, in particular, was an absolutely dream day. I holed everything and hit it amazing. It all came together yesterday to give me this opportunity. So, yeah, it’s been a long time coming and I’m just really proud of myself.
I didn’t do anything special today. I just got ahead and then kept the lead. It was about the person making the least mistakes today.
: “Playing in the AIG Women’s Open is something I’ve really wanted to do for a long time and this means I don’t have to pre-qualify which is great because that was the plan next week. A promising future for her!
