Asensio transfer blow

Marco Asensio has dealt Arsenal a transfer blow after reportedly telling Real Madrid he wants to remain at the club.

The 26-year-old is out of contract in a year’s time with reports suggesting his current club could cash in on him this summer rather than risk losing him for nothing next year. There is understood to be some distance between Asensio’s demands and the offer he has had from Real Madrid but his priority is still to stay with his current club.

The news could deal Mikel Arteta a significant blow with the Arsenal boss reportedly very keen to bring the Spaniard to the Emirates this summer.

Midfield ‘issue’ exposed

Arsenal’s ‘issue’ in midfield could be exposed yet again by their decision to prioritise signing Youri Tielemans this summer.

The Gunners are thought to be keen on bringing in Tielemans this summer, while north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the signature of Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma. But the Mali international may be a better candidate to resolve the ‘softness’ issue the Gunners have in the middle of the park according to pundits such as Roy Keane.

Emery’s glaring mistake

Former Arsenal boss Unai Emery’s glaring mistake while at the club has been exposed by Mikel Arteta’s latest transfer target.

Reports suggest the Gunners boss is keen on Leeds United star Raphinha to help share the burden on the right wing with Bukayo Saka. And a move for the Brazilian would come as a further blow to Nicolas Pepe, who Emery brought to the club for a club-record £72million in 2019.

Pepe has failed to hit the heights expected of a record signing for a club with the stature that Arsenal hold in the world of football, and signing another player in his position would surely signal an end to his career at the club and ensure Emery’s big transfer move with the Gunners goes down as a huge failure.
