Carolina Melgrati, an Italian amateur, is the great surprise of the first round of the Scandinavian Mixed – a combined tournament organized by the DP World Tour and the LET – which in Sweden sees men and women compete against each other.

The 19-year-old from Brianza, who received an invitation thanks to her fourth place at the Ladies Italian Open, at the Halmstad Golf Club (par 72) in Tylosand leads the ranking with a score of 65 (-7) strokes.

An eagle, six birdies and a bogey for the Lombard who leads the leaderboard with the Scottish Craig Howie, the French Matthieu Pavon and the Spanish Santiago Tarrio.

A very young woman like three protagonists of the DP World Tour. What a start for Melgrati that she is also the “best woman” in the field. Good start also for Virginia Elena Carta (proette), 11 / a with 68 (-4). The blues beat the blues, at least in the first 18 holes.

Edoardo Molinari (recently appointed deputy captain of the Europe team at the Ryder Cup 2023) is in fact 27 / o with 69 (-3) and precedes Renato Paratore in the ranking, 55 / o with 71 (-1). Further back Francesco Laporta and Andrea Pavan, 77 / i with 72 (par).

Disappointing Lorenzo Gagli, only 140 / o with 76 (+4). In an event where the ranking is unique (as is the prize pool of 2,000,000 dollars), the star of Carolina Melgrati shines in Sweden (at the home of the legend Annika Sorenstam).

The PGA Tour operates three tours, which are played primarily in the United States, with occasional crossovers in Canada and Mexico: The PGA Tour also organizes an annual qualification tournament (known as the Q-School), held every fall over a distance of six laps; the top twenty-five finishers win the right to play on the PGA Tour the following year.

The remainder, if classified within the 75th position, can instead participate in the Nationwide Tour. The top 25 in the Nationwide Tour ranking of awards also win the right to participate in the following year’s PGA Tour.

A player who wins three tour tournaments in a year receives a “field promotion” which guarantees him participation in the PGA Tour for the remainder of the year. At the end of each season, the top 125 players in the ranking of prizes receive a “tour card” for the following year, which exempts them from qualifying for most tournaments.

However, at certain tournaments, known as invitationals, the exemption applies only to the top seventy of the previous year’s leaderboard. Players ranked in positions 126 to 150 receive a conditioned tour card, which gives them priority to replace players who decide not to participate in any tournament.

Winning a PGA Tour tournament entitles you to a tour card with a minimum duration of two years, plus one year for each further victory up to a maximum of five years. Winning one of the three World Golf Championships or The Tour Championship guarantees exemption from qualification for three years.

Anyone who wins one of the four Majors or The Players Championship gets guaranteed tour participation for five years. Players who win twenty tour tournaments are qualified for life. Particular conditions are foreseen for players who are in the first fifty or twenty-five of the ranking without other reasons for exemption from qualifying or for players who return from an in
