World No. 1 Iga Swiatek has pulled out of Berlin due to a shoulder discomfort but is hoping to be fit for Wimbledon. Swiatek has been bothered by a shoulder issue for quite some time but she has been able to play through it.
Swiatek’s withdrawal from Berlin means she won’t play any grass tournaments leading up to Wimbledon. “Due to a recurrent discomfort I am feeling in my shoulder, unfortunately I need to withdraw from the bett1open in Berlin.
I’m sorry I will not be able to play there. I will focus on recovery and rest in order to be ready for Wimbledon,” Swiatek announced on Twitter.

Swiatek will enter Wimbledon on a 35-match winning streak
Swiatek came to Paris as the absolute French Open favorite and the enormous pressure was on her to deliver.
En route to winning the French Open title, Swiatek was pretty dominant as she dropped just one set in seven matches played. Grass is Swiatek’s weakest surface and at the start of the tournament she will be focused on just getting through the opening matches.
“I think when I’m going to start Wimbledon I’m just going to think about getting through the first matches. I won’t think about the streak because I know it’s not helping me. I did the same here and I know how to separate my mind from that and focus on tennis,” Swiatek said on the WTA insider podcast.
“But right now for sure, I can think about that a little bit more and I would love to add some matches to that streak. But I feel that chapter is closed for sure for clay season, but also after the Sunshine Double I didn’t really have a lot of time to rest and I really want to rest right now after Roland Garros.
Because back then I was like I’ll have three days off, but I couldn’t really stop thinking about the season. Right now I think I will have more time and I really want to do my best at resting.”
