Jurgen Klopp reviews Champions League final defeat against Real Madrid

Mohamed Salah has given a clear sign of just how much he wants to stay at Liverpool by declaring he wants next season to start “tomorrow”.

The claim comes after the Reds forward shared his heartache at losing in the Champions League final against Real Madrid last weekend. Liverpool were denied a seventh European crown as Real Madrid became kings of the continent once again thanks to Vinicius Junior’s strike as he turned home Federico Valverde’s low cross.

It comes as Jurgen Klopp’s comments about “extraordinary” forward Robert Lewandowski have been uncovered, with the Reds tipped to try and sign the Poland international this summer. And UEFA has altered its excuse for the Champions League final chaos after wrongly blaming Liverpool fans.

Here are Mirror Football’s latest Liverpool headlines.

Mohamed Salah has shown exactly how much he wants to carry on playing for Liverpool after insisting he’s already ready for next season.

The Egypt international’s contract at Anfield expires in a year’s time but Salah himself clearly has no plans of leaving just yet. After missing out on the Champions League in the 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid in Paris, Salah reflected on what he says was a “very long season”.

After sharing his disappointment at not being able to bring the trophy home, the Reds ace thanked fans and said a part of him wishes next season “starts again tomorrow”.

The forward’s international boss Czeslaw Michniewicz said this week that he would “like to see” Lewandowski playing for the Reds, after he declared his career with Bayern Munich as being “over”. Lewandowski is a player Klopp knows well from their time together at Borussia Dortmund between 2010 and 2014 – and the Reds boss said only last year that he is the best player he’s ever coached.

Explaining his answer, Klopp said: “What he has made out of his potential, how he pushed himself to become the player he is today, that’s extraordinary.”

UEFA alters excuse

UEFA has altered its excuse for the chaos ahead of the Champions League final.

Liverpool fans were initially blamed over their alleged “late arrival”, as chaotic scenes led to fans who had purchased tickets being able to get into the stadium and French police using pepper spray on supporters. Mirror Sport understands UEFA was inundated with complaints from corporate sponsors.

Hundreds of guests had been enjoying pre-match hospitality in the Champions Village entertainment area, thanks to sponsors such as PlayStation, Just Eat, and Expedia. But some of them were also caught up in the panic outside the stadium, leading to UEFA performing a U-turn from blaming fans to an acceptance that something had gone wrong.

And it’s possible that corporate fans who spend millions and aren’t perceived as troublemakers was significant.
