After knocking out Aryna Sabalenka in the third round, Camila Giorgi was unable to clinch the quarter-finals at the Roland Garros 2022 for the first time in her career. The Italian player did not play one of her best games and lost in two sets to Daria Kasatkina.

Giorgi explained at the press conference: “I think it’s all very positive this week. I am much happier to be back on the pitch than to play at these levels. It was a great match. There are some statistics and I can’t add much; this is how it went today.

I tried to push, but my game didn’t work today. We have seen the differences. It wasn’t my day. She was amazing. Happens. I’m happy to have reached this milestone at Roland Garros, I didn’t expect it.”

Camila Giorgi controversy: “This is my game”

The Italian number one then talked about her season and her aggressive style of play, completely different from that proposed by her latest opponent.

She analyzed: “I didn’t have much continuity. We have to keep working on my game, which is much more risky. I will always miss more shots than the others because of my aggression. I will never re-watch the game, because I will never be able to follow the example of a game.

totally different from mine. I’ll keep thinking about myself. I could watch the videos of Andre Agassi or Pete Sampras, who are my idols. I will never have a plan B to follow, this is my game. I will never be able to learn from a tennis player who plays like this.

It has been a great week for me. I raised my level. I am more than happy. WTA Ranking? I can go very far. Thanks to my aggressive play, I have a better chance of winning. This is just the beginning. I just need more continuity and to be physically well.”
