At the end of the night Monday, one team will be packing its bags and getting ready to hit the links while the other will be one step closer to a Stanley Cup Final berth.
Game 7 between the Rangers and Hurricanes is set to take place in Raleigh, N.C. New York, facing elimination, jumped on Carolina early in Game 6, eventually pulling away for a 5-2 win to stay alive and force the winner-take-all match.
The winner of Monday’s contest moves on to the Eastern Conference finals, where the Lightning are waiting after sweeping the Panthers in their second-round series.
“We can say all we want that it’s just another game, but if you lose, you go home. Obviously, the guys know,” Rangers coach Gerard Gallant said before the game. “But you go play. You can’t change your preparation, you can’t change your game plan. You play the game and you play it hard and hopefully you get the breaks and win the hockey game.”

Both teams know what it takes to win a Game 7 because both did just that in the first round. The Rangers came back from down 3-1 in the series to rattle off three wins against the Penguins, with Artemi Panarin’s OT winner in the final game sealing the deal.
The Hurricanes held off a Bruins comeback attempt in their series, earning a 3-2 victory to advance to the second round.
“You do need to enjoy these moments because this is pretty cool,” Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “It’s special to have an opportunity like this on a big stage for our guys. I’m excited for them.”
Carolina is a perfect 7-0 during these playoffs at home, while the Rangers are just 1-6 on the road. That pattern certainly favors the Hurricanes, but all it takes is one game to change that.
Will the Canes take care of business yet again at PNC Arena, or will the Rangers come back in yet another series to advance?
The Sporting News will be tracking updates, scores and highlights from Hurricanes-Rangers Game 7.

1st period
8:37 p.m. ET: Rangers kill the Reaves minor. Hurricanes drop to 1-for-16 in the series on the power play.
8:33 p.m. ET: And another penalty. Ryan Reaves gets called for interference after a late hit on Tony DeAngelo. Carolina gets their second chance on the man advantage.
8:30 p.m. ET: Right off the face off after the Kreider goal, Teuvo Teravainen as his slap shot from the slot just saved with the toe by Shesterkin. Carolina was inches away from responding with a goal of their own.

8:29 p.m. ET: GOAL! Another power play goal for New York as Chris Kreider tips in a one-time shot from Mika Zibanejad. Excellent stick work from the 50-goal scorer, 2-0 Rangers eight minutes into the first.

8:26 p.m. ET: Yet another penalty as the Hurricanes are called for too many men. Looks like Seth Jarvis was hurt from a Trouba hit and was crawling to the bench. Someone jumped on the ice too soon and engaged in the play before Jarvis was at the bench. Rangers with a chance to go 2-for-2 on the man advantage.
8:24 p.m. ET: Penalty is killed. The Canes’ best chance came when Martin Necas had a chance to shoot in the puck in the slot, but elected to slide it to Andrei Svechnikov by the side of the net and Svechnikov whiffed.
8:21 p.m. ET: And now it’s Carolina to the power play. Jacob Trouba gets whistled for high-sticking Jesperi Kotkaniemi in the visor. The Hurricanes’s power play has struggled mightily in these playoffs, converting on only six of their 50 chances.
8:19 p.m. ET: GOAL! The Rangers strike first as it’s Adam Fox with two seconds left on the power play. New York had nothing for most of the man advantage, but Fox jumps up behind the play and beats Raanta over the glove with a shot from the top of the circle. 1-0 Rangers four minutes in.

8:16 p.m. ET: Early power play for New York as Sebastian Aho is called for a hook. Braden Schneider walked into the slot from the point for a shot and Aho had Andrew Copp tied up as he tried to screen Raanta.
8:14 p.m. ET: Game 7 is underway between the Canes and Rangers.

8 p.m. ET: As the opening face off looms ahead, it will be one streak ending tonight. The Rangers have won four-straight elimination games, while the Hurricanes have not lost at home in the playoffs. One of those streaks is getting snapped.
7 p.m. ET: No changes in the crease on either side. It will be Antti Raanta again for Carolina even after getting pulled in Game 6. And of course, it’s Igor Shesterkin for New York.
Lines at skate: Aho with Teravainen, Jarvis; Trocheck with Svechnikov, Necas; Staal line intact; Kotkaniemi with Lorentz and Domi. No change in D pairs Raanta in starter’s crease. Kochetkov is second goalie.
