World No. 74 Zheng Qinven called Iga Swiatek “a wonderful player” but noted she has been preparing to play the Pole and will be ready for the challenge. On Saturday, Zheng had a 6-0 3-0 lead before France’s Alize Cornet decided to retire their French Open third round meeting.
Zheng, 19, is one of the most promising players on the WTA Tour and she is having her first big Grand Slam run. On Monday, she will be aiming to clinch the biggest victory of her career when she takes on first-seeded Swiatek.
“She’s a wonderful player. Actually, I have been prepared for this match, because I really want to play against her. So I’m excited for this match,” Zheng told WTA insider.

Swiatek praised Zheng
Zheng and Swiatek will be going head-to-head for the first time in their careers when they meet in the French Open last-16.
Swiatek maybe has never played Zheng but she has heard some nice things about the Chinese from other players. Safe to say, Swiatek won’t be taking Zheng for granted when they meet. “I have heard some other players talking about her.
I’m sure that she’s in the right place for her to be, because she’s playing really well. Even when she lost some matches, people were really saying that she has a talent,” Swiatek said of Zheng.

Zheng is definitely capable of scoring big wins as in the French Open second round she upset two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep.
Zheng had her back turned against the wall versus Halep as she was down by a set and a break. Just when it seemed Halep would clinch a comfortable straight-set win, Zheng recovered to win in three sets. However, beating Swiatek won’t be easy at all as the Pole has won her last 31 matches. It remains to be seen if Zheng can upset Swiatek and reach the French Open quarterfinal.
