Daniil Medvedev answers what he would do should Wimbledon reverse ban decision

Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev has confirmed that he would gladly play at Wimbledon, should The All England Club decide to reverse their decision. Last month, Wimbledon imposed player bans on Russian and Belarusian players.

The ATP and WTA weren’t happy with the Wimbledon decision and last week announced the removal of ranking points from this year’s tournament. Many consider this is as a lose-lose situation for both sides and the most logical thing seems to be allowing Russian and Belarusian players to compete.

If Wimbledon reverses its decision, the ATP and WTA will likely react by returning ranking points for this year’s tournament. Reportedly, meetings will take place at the French Open. “They have to, you know, communicate to other players, yeah, about what they are doing,” Medvedev said.

“I think it’s a tricky situation, because if you come and talk to the council players, they are going to be super happy to answer all your questions, but sometimes we as players, we don’t have much free time.

When the ATP announced it, I was, like, ‘Okay, it’s official’ Right now I don’t know what’s gonna happen. You know, my main job is to play tennis, try to get points here as much as I can.”

Medvedev: I’d play Wimbledon

“Again, I’m gonna repeat again, if I can play Wimbledon I will be happy to be there, even without points.

With points, will be happy to be there and try to get some points. If I cannot play, I’m gonna stay home, practice hard, and try to be better for my next tournaments,” Medvedev said. Wimbledon is one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world and their decision to impose player bans on Russian and Belarusian players drew lots of attention. Most notably, both Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic called their decision “unfair.”
