23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams offered empathy for the Texas elementary school shooting victims, saying that she is truly heartbroken and praying for all the victims and everyone affected by this tragedy. This week, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos viciously killed 19 children and two teachers at the Robb Elementary School.
Just like many other high-profile names, Williams suggested it is time for changes as violence simply has to stop. “I have been truly heartbroken by these heinous shootings,” Williams wrote on Twitter. “I keep praying for the victims and people affected by these crimes.

Williams hasn’t played since 2021 Wimbledon
Nearly a year has passed since we have last seen Williams compete in a tournament.
With Williams out, Iga Swiatek has become the new face of the women’s game. Swiatek has won her last 30 matches and this kind of dominance hasn’t been seen since the days of prime Williams. This week, Eurosport tennis expert John McEnroe said comparing Swiatek with Williams is “quite a compliment.”
“[Comparing Iga Swiatek with Serena Williams] is quite a compliment,” McEnroe said, via Eurosport. “Serena didn’t play with this much spin, obviously, she hit a bigger, flatter ball. But if [Iga] has half the career that Serena has had, she would be thrilled.
Obviously, she is young, but she’s learning how to, you know, do different things. She plays with a lot more spin than Serena, to me. But she’s learned to hit and flatten some balls out when she needs to, which is the opposite of Serena.
Serena was flat and learned how to use more spin. Champions adapt, you know, that’s the bottom line. I think that’s the comparison [that my brother, Patrick] is making. [Swiatek] is in a great headspace and she is hopefully going to win eight, 10 majors, who knows? She could win a lot of majors”.
