Martina Trevisan was crowned champion at the Rabat Open on Saturday after defeating Claire Liu in the final. The 28-year-old Italian won 6-2, 6-1 in an hour and 32 minutes. This is the first title of Trevisan’s career in what was her first final.
Trevisan put in 65% of her first-serves and won 63% of her first-serve points. In comparison, Liu put in 60% of her first serves and 38% points. In terms of second serves, Trevisan won 50% of her second-serve points to the latter’s 35%.
Trevisan saved nine of the 10 break points she faced while converting six break points on Liu’s serve. The 85th-ranked Trevisan had 15 winners two fewer than Liu’s 17 and 22 unforced errors, exactly half as many as Liu’s 44.

After her win, an emotional Trevisan thanked her father for his support. “I would like to dedicate this trophy to my dad. He can’t see me in this moment but I know he would be very proud of me.
He is a fighter like me during this week, but during his whole life – so this is for you, dad,” she said. Like Trevisan, this was the first final for the 21-year-old Liu as well. After the Rabat Open, both players will be heading to the French capital next, where they’ll be playing the French Open.
Martina Trevisan’s in the bottom half of the draw and will play Britain’s Harriet Dart in the first round. If she comes through, she could play Ons Jabeur in the second round. Meanwhile, Claire Liu’s in the top half and will open against 24th seed Tamara Zidansek. The Slovenian reached the semi-finals of the 2021 edition, losing to eventual finalist, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
