Racing this week for his second PGA Tour Champions event of the season at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic, Fred Couples needed a caddy. The 1992 Masters winner, now 62, quickly thought of Joseph LaCava, son of Joe LaCava who notably carried his bag and currently takes care of Tiger Woods.
If Joseph is not a regular at PGA Tour tournaments, he stood out by carrying Charlie Woods’ bag to the PNC Championship when the two tigers finished 2nd.

With class and above all a lot of humour, Fred Couples asked young Charlie for permission to use his shopping cart.
“I didn’t know Charlie’s cell number, but I contacted Tiger,” he said. JT (Justin Thomas) was on the line, and they didn’t answer. Maybe they thought I was teasing a bit. But then I said, “Look, Tiger, I need to make sure Charlie is okay with Joseph being my caddy in Atlanta.”
He answered me right away and said, “I just talked to him. He agree ” The new association seems to work well since Fred Couples shares third place before the last lap. “I’m learning the ropes a bit, but I talked to my dad and when I walked the course the other day he gave me some good knowledge,” the new caddy explains.
