French tennis player Jeremy Chardy remains sidelined and he has now withdrawn from the French Open. Chardy, 35, hasn’t played since ending his 2021 season prematurely because of the COVID-19 vaccine complications. Following a first round exit at the US Open, Chardy said he had “a series of problems” after taking the vaccine.
Chardy, who hasn’t played since the US Open, signed up to play the Aix en Provence Challenger. The Aix en Provence Challenger kicked off this week but Chardy didn’t participate. Chardy won’t be playing at the French Open for the first time since 2004.

Since 2005, Chardy has been a regular at the French Open. Chardy didn’t make it past the French Open qualifying in 2005 and 2007 but in every other year featured in the tournament’s main draw.
Chardy on the vaccine complications
“Since I got my vaccine, I have a problem, I have a lot of problems. As a result, I can’t train, I can’t play,” Chardy told AFP last September. “I don’t know what to do.
The problem is that we have no hindsight on the vaccine. There are people who had similar [side-effects], but the durations [of the issues] were really different.” When announcing the end of his 2021 season, Chardy admitted he feared he might never return again.
“In my head, it’s difficult, because I don’t know how long it will last,” Chardy admitted back in September. “For now, my season is stopped and I don’t know when I’ll start again. I turn 35 in February so for the moment I’m maybe a little bit negative, but this is the first time the idea that next season might be my last has crossed my mind.
I’m thinking about it… It’s difficult because I was enjoying myself and I wanted to play longer.”
