Incoming Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag plans to rebuild his squad around eight key players.
The Dutchman wants his team at Old Trafford to have a settled core of talent who will become mainstays in his side, according to reports. And it is claimed Ten Hag has already identified the players he can “trust and build around” when he arrives at the club his summer.
It comes as James Garner’s impressive loan spell at Nottingham Forest could see him become part of Erik ten Hag’s plans after the midfielder was likened to former United midfielder Michael Carrick. And Diego Forlan has said that Darwin Nunez would be a “spectacular” signing for Manchester United.

Forlan sends Nunez transfer message
Former Manchester United forward says his countryman Darwin Nunez “has a lot of potential” and “could fit in” at the cub.
Nunez is expected to leave Portuguese outfit Benfica this summer having netted 34 goals in all competitions this season. With some of Europe’s top sides all scrambling for a new centre-forward during the summer transfer window, competition for the Uruguay international’s signature could be fierce but United are said to be keen on signing the forward.
And now Forlan has said Nunez is a “very good player” and could be “spectacular” at United if the club are patient with him.

Garner could force way into first XI
James Garner could force his way into Erik ten Hag’s first-team thoughts after an excellent campaign in the Championship with Nottingham Forest.
Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba are all set to leave the Old Trafford outfit when their contracts expire this summer, while Nemanja Matic has already stated his intention to leave the club at the end of the season as well. And that could leave an opportunity for Garner, who has netted four goals in 39 appearances this season and was likened to Michael Carrick by former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Garner will return to United this summer just as Erik ten Hag arrives to start the club’s rebuild, and the midfielder could well expect to catch his new manager’s eye.
