Tottenham aiming to loan out Dane Scarlett, but receive poignant warning about fellow striker’s failure

Dane Scarlett is rumoured to be on the move this summer with Tottenham wanting the striker to further his development in the Championship, per a report.

The 18-year-old is set to be on the move this summer with a series of clubs looking to bolster their strike force for their upcoming campaigns.

Scarlett has been in and around Tottenham’s first team since Jose Mourinho first played him in the Europa League when he aged just 16. However, since then, the youngster has had only featured sparingly since the arrival of new boss Antonio Conte.

Spurs were reportedly approached by Bournemouth last year in regards to the availability of Scarlett. But the club denied the approach as they wanted guarantees over his play-time.

According to Football.London, the north London side plan to loan the striker out in order to ‘further his development’ next season. Spurs want to be able to give Scarlett guaranteed minutes so that his development doesn’t stagnate.

Approaches from the Championship are expected, though the report notes League One may be the better route. The example of fellow striker Troy Parrott’s dismal loan spell in the Championship with Millwall is cited.

Parrott struggled in the second tier, failing to notch a single goal across 11 league outings. Avoiding that mistake a second time may be on Spurs’ mind with Scarlett.

The striker has made a few appearances for the senior team this year, with the majority of those coming under former manager, Nuno Espirito Santo.

The striker was ever-present in the squads of Tottenham’s Europa Conference League campaign. But their progression in Europe came to a halt when they team couldn’t field a side against Stade Rennais due to COVID-19 implications.

Due to this, they forfeited their round of 16 match 3-0 which allowed Stade Rennais to progress without having to lift a finger.

The 18-year-old’s few cameos throughout the season have been far from remarkable. Scarlett has taken a backwards step and is now back in the Under-23’s set-up and it seems he will remain there until potentially loaned out.

Football.London also understands that Spurs may be in the market for another striker to back up star-man Harry Kane this summer. If a deal does come to fruition then a loan deal will be vital for Scarlett’s development as he will be even further down the ranks.

Conte praises Scarlett

Although the striker is seemingly out of favour with Conte, the Italian had nothing but praise for the development and promise Scarlett has been showing recently.

“I’m seeing a lot of improvement today in (Dane) Scarlett honestly if I have to tell you,” said Conte via Football.London

“Seeing that this guy is improving a lot, he’s only 17-years-old but I can tell you that he is a really important prospect for Tottenham,

“He has to be patient and work behind these very important players and continue to work in this way because about Scarlett, I can tell you that I see a brilliant future for him.”

Tottenham’s next match is one of the biggest of their season as they take on Liverpool on Saturday. Spurs are two points out of the top four spots and will no doubt throw everything they have to get a result out of the match-up.

Qualification to next season’s Champions League could depend on securing a positive result against the title-chasing Reds.
