World No. 19 Felix Auger-Aliassime hasn’t had a great start to the clay season but insists there is no reason to worry as he is hoping to put on a good campaign at the Madrid Masters. Auger-Aliassime got off to a strong start to the 2022 season, winning the ATP Cup and then reaching the Australian Open quarterfinal.
In February, Auger-Aliassime lifted his maiden ATP crowd in Rotterdam and also reached the final in Marseille. Since March, Auger-Aliassime has been struggling with his form as in Indian Wells and Miami he was beaten in his opener.
So far this clay season, Auger-Aliassime is 4-4 and as he was beaten in the Monte Carlo second round, reached the round-of-16 in Marrakech and his last two appearances ended with quarterfinal losses in Barcelona dn Estoril.
Last week, Auger-Aliassime suffered a 6-2 6-2 defeat to Sebastian Korda in Estoril.
Auger-Aliassime not concerned about his game
“I played every week on clay that I could play. I didn’t win as much as I wanted, but I played games and spent time in training.
I arrive in good physical shape with matches played, things learned and I hope I can play well this week. For me, there is no reason to worry. It’s just learning from what’s going on to see how I can do better,” Auger-Aliassime said, as quoted on We Love Tennis.
Auger-Aliassime, seeded at No. 8, has a first round bye in Madrid. After a first round bye, Auger-Aliassime will take on the winner of the match between Cristian Garin and Frances Tiafoe. Garin is a player capable of playing well on clay, while Tiafoe is coming off a runner-up finish in Estoril.
Auger-Aliassime, 21, is set for his third Madrid appearance. Auger-Aliassime made his Madrid debut in 2019, when he reached the second round before losing to Rafael Nadal. Last year, Auger-Aliassime suffered a first round loss to Casper Ruud in the Madrid first round.
