Novak Djokovic has found old acquaintances in Belgrade. In the Serbian capital, the final of the Serbia Open was held between Novak Djokovic and Andrey Rublev. The Russian triumphed in three sets: after winning the first set, the tiebreak of the second set betrayed him, temporarily putting the world number one into play; in the third set, however, the physicist did not help Djokovic, who did not win a single game and allowed Rublev to play his game and take the trophy home.

In a final that did not give joys as regards tennis, but even more the physical condition, Djokovic was able to console himself by listening to the words of his former coach, Marian Vajda. The former coach was present at the tournament for a sculpture that was dedicated to him and took advantage of the award ceremony to say a few words to his old friend.

“I want to thank you Nole for what you have done for me in these 15 years, it has been a great adventure. I had a lot of fun. Most of the time! And finally I thank myself for putting up with this,” said Vajda during the award ceremony in Belgrade.

The reasons for Vajda’s farewell

On the occasion of the final in Belgrade, there were no awards and thanks, but new background was revealed. In particular, the reasons why Marian Vajda left Djokovic’s staff were explained.

In March of this year, in fact, the two announced the separation after fifteen years and numerous Grand Slam titles won; a decision, which, however, had already been taken after the ATP Finals, but the Australian affair has postponed the announcement by both.

“I was just tired from the many trips, that’s the reason. I’m happy that we were able to greet each other here properly, having also been able to thank him in front of the people of Belgrade,” declared the former coach of the Serbian on the reasons for the farewell.
