Aston Villa have announced young midfielder Jacob Ramsey has signed a new five-year contract with the club.
The 20-year-old came through Aston Villa’s academy and had a loan spell at Doncaster before making his senior debut for the Villans in September 2020.
Ramsey became a regular in the first team last season, appearing in 25 matches in all competitions. He registered an assist against Bristol City in the Carabao Cup but couldn’t open his goalscoring account.
Ramsey, an England U21 international, is enjoying a top campaign this time around. His record stands at six goals and one assist from 31 games.
He has found the net in league matches against Arsenal, Manchester United and West Ham. Ramsey also bagged a brace during a 3-3 draw with Leeds United in February.
Rio Ferdinand thinks teams ‘far bigger than Aston Villa‘ could come in with offers for Ramsey in the near future. Former midfielder Michael Thomas, meanwhile, reckons the starlet should take the next step in his career by joining Arsenal.

However, Villa have moved to end any rumours of a transfer – at least for now – by tying him down to a new deal.
It will last until June 2027, and Ramsey is ‘over the moon’ with the new terms. “It’s a proud moment for me, especially for my family,” Ramsey told VillaTV.
“I’ve been here a long time now, come through the Academy, and to sign for another five years at this club, I’m over the moon.”
Ramsey continued: “There’s so many people who have helped me get to this point now, I can’t thank everyone enough from Under-9s, to being a scholar, to U23s and then stepping up to the first team.
“It’s been good; a lot of up and down moments but it’s all part of the journey and I feel like I’ve been playing well this season so it’s nice to be rewarded with a new contract.”
Ramsey also spoke about Villa’s aims under Steven Gerrard, who replaced Dean Smith as manager in November.
“I think everyone knows that the owners, Christian (Purslow) and the gaffer have got big ambitions,” he said.
“So I think the obvious one is to play European football. My plan for the next five years is to get this club playing European football again.”
